12. matter over mind or mind over matter?

The power of the mind is a funny thing and I strongly believe in mind over matter at times.  I just watched a documentary on the power of our thoughts, a group of  dear old men were put together in a share house that was set up as if it was 20 years behind the rest of the world. The men had to cook/fend for themselves and become completely independent, all the while surrounded by things from their past (videos, commercials, posters) all of this in a way took them back in time.

As a result of being treated younger, the men started to believe they were capable of doing that of what individuals 20 years younger than them could do. A few of the men chucked their walking sticks away, others wanted to go out dancing... the strength they now felt was apparently overwhelming- eye sight and hearing improved and the men were believed to have a remarkably higher IQ than just one week before.

So it could have been a little over exaggerated, I’m not sure. But my point is... our bodies are heavily influenced by what is around us and what we conquer up our thoughts to be. These men weren’t incapable to begin with, they were just treated as if they were. It is only once we start believing with our minds that we can do something then our bodies will agree.

Your thoughts effect a whole lot more than what you think they do, maintaining positive thoughts and changing attitudes will in turn motivate your body to cooperate. The only catch to this is the best way to a positive mind is to use our bodies to excersise.

It’s something to think about for anyone trying to kick the habits and fulfil the new years resolutions. It won’t happen with merely the thought of just giving up you need to engage in more of the things that make you happy, the things your passionate about.
