10. to sugar or not to sugar

Honesty refers to a facet of moral character and denotes positive, virtuous attributes such as integrity, truthfulness, and straightforwardness along with the absence of lying, cheating, or theft[1].

After a restless sleep and an early morning pondering I finally got the experience that would be the inspiration for this entry.

I was sent to Parliament House today to watch a Minister present his speech. The speech inspired me because it sounded  convincing and was presented in a way that made me believe this person was extreamly passionate about thier job -and the subject matter.

I listened carefully, thought about how proud I was to be in the field I am in because I help make things happen. Messages that are relayed to the rest of society exist partly becuase I have the job of putting them out there.

But then I began to think about how much of it is sugar coated. How many times have I drafted a publication to try to achieve the perfect sentence just to tell a group of people what I think they want to hear (this blog is my moment of truth so does not apply). I can tell you - it wouldnt get anywhere if this wasnt the case.

How many times a day do you relay information slightly tweaked because your afraid that the truth will hurt a persons feelings or they wont want to hear it, and wouldnt believe it even if they did.

Making other people feel good, feels great. But having to sugar coat what you want to say doesnt.. lately more than ever I have felt the exact oposite of how I would havet felt about a year ago. These days I try to say whats on my mind, I am as honest as I can be but have to admit as sad as this is sometimes I feel that people just dont like to hear the truth.

So my question is, it easier to continue living a life thats half sugar coated?.. I admire people who are completly honest but at the same time get annoyed by them because honesty can sometimes come accross as being arogant and is often used in the wrong way completly. Are you telling the truth to benifit yourself, or the other person?  I believe that if your  being honest because you believe in what your saying, then go for it, be true to yourself. But if you are just being honest just to hurt someone- thats probably depriving honesty of its meaning.

I guess the conclusion to this entry is iits best to be honest, but be honest in the right way and if people cant handle it then there isnt much you can do, but at least you will sleep at night knowing you are living by your own means.

Sugar coating is a little like real sugar it provides no nutritional value, Its full of empty killojules and you will feel a whole lot lighter if you can avoid it.
